Resistant Starch and Probiotics
So I listen to this podcast at work sometimes called Latest in Paleo and the guy who does it is pretty cool because he is open to new things and isn't set on one way of eating. On a resent podcast I listened to he had some guys on from this website called freetheanimal.com and they were talking about the importance of your gut biome and feeding it the stuff it needs. Specifically resistant starch and probiotics. One benefit they had said many people had reported was sleeping better and vivid dreams. With my sleeping issues I decided to give it a try and ordered some soil based probiotics and bought some potato starch. Tried it for the first time last night and I fell asleep around 11pm which was around an hour after I took it. Crazy I am not sure if it was a placebo effect or not but I don't think all the weird dreams I had that night would be caused by the placebo effect. The first weird thing was that I woke myself up laughing at whatever the dream was (I can't remember now) and then woke up a few more times during the night from weird dreams but I went right back to sleep. I am a little worried to take it anytime other than right before bed because I don't want to fall asleep at work. ;) I think I will try taking it in the morning (as many supposedly do) this weekend and see if I feel the need to take a nap. At my doctors appointment last Wednesday I was 253lbs and this morning I was 245lbs which is probably mostly water weight but it is a start!

Trippy dream affect! I've heard good things about probiotics. Haven't heard about taking starch before though. What kind of form did it come in? Like a pill? I was wondering if you could maybe boil potatoes and drink the water afterwards to get the same affect, but that sounded gross when I thought about it. :) Jeremy has some fav food/nutrition/health type blogs that he follows.
ReplyDeleteOh wait. I think I needed to say 'effect'. Dang it.
