I'm fine.

Nothing much has really gone different this week. I ate too much over the weekend so I gained back some of the initial weight loss but no biggie. I always seem to have trouble on the weekends, I just need to keep myself busy. I haven't really been working out or anything but I have been eating pretty decently. I made some homemade fruit snacks and while they tasted better than they looked, they weren't awesome. Some earlier work hours came available at work and I have asked for them so we will see how that goes and how it effects everything.

Video about RS

Here is a good link to freetheanimal that explains the importance of resistant starch: http://freetheanimal.com/2013/12/resistant-primer-newbies.html

I did mix it with some water this morning but it was pretty hard to down in. I think in the future I might have to find something to mix in with it to cover the weird taste. It didn't seem the make me sleepy which is good especially because I needed to do some yard work this morning. The yard is looking pretty good and the birds appreciated that I cleaned out and filled the bird bath. I am planning on going on a walk with my friend Rachel tomorrow probably either at Indian Rock or Lakewood so that will be nice. I kind of splurged a bit last night but I figure that is bound to happen sometimes and it was a ridiculous amount so I don't feel bad about it.

Another way to get some RS is green plantains and supposedly if you dry them they taste kind of like saltines and half a plantain is all the RS you would need in a day. I started drying one but it is taking forever and they don't look very appetizing right now. I just air dried them because I heard someone say they tasted better that way but it is going to take so long.

Resistant Starch and Probiotics

So I listen to this podcast at work sometimes called Latest in Paleo and the guy who does it is pretty cool because he is open to new things and isn't set on one way of eating. On a resent podcast I listened to he had some guys on from this website called freetheanimal.com and they were talking about the importance of your gut biome and feeding it the stuff it needs. Specifically resistant starch and probiotics. One benefit they had said many people had reported was sleeping better and vivid dreams. With my sleeping issues I decided to give it a try and ordered some soil based probiotics and bought some potato starch. Tried it for the first time last night and I fell asleep around 11pm which was around an hour after I took it. Crazy I am not sure if it was a placebo effect or not but I don't think all the weird dreams I had that night would be caused by the placebo effect. The first weird thing was that I woke myself up laughing at whatever the dream was (I can't remember now) and then woke up a few more times during the night from weird dreams but I went right back to sleep. I am a little worried to take it anytime other than right before bed because I don't want to fall asleep at work. ;) I think I will try taking it in the morning (as many supposedly do) this weekend and see if I feel the need to take a nap. At my doctors appointment last Wednesday I was 253lbs and this morning I was 245lbs which is probably mostly water weight but it is a start!

Reset

Wow, it has been a year since I last posted on this blog. Of course I have gained back all the weight :/ so here I am again. When I wrote my last post I was eating way too little (around 800 calories a day) and I didn't like where my mindset was. I was always focused on what I was eating and how many calories I was burning and while I do think I obviously need to have some focus on that I also need to chill out a bit. Looking back I can't believe I was ever down to 207 that seems like a crazy number to me now. My depression was super bad last year and didn't get better until I quit taking birth control in October. Before that the doctor upped my dosage of the antidepressant I take to the most that is allowed but it still didn't seem to do much. I did some research and based on personal experience from Joy I knew the birth control could be having a negative effect on my moods. While I was able to go back to my original dosage after I quit the birth control I wasn't able to stop completely. I also had my thyroid checked because I have been gaining weight like crazy lately and have several other symptoms but the results came back normal. For now I am just going to try some healthier eating and spending more time outdoors and see if that will help. :)
